Kulturinsel Wöhrmühle 2026: Event Technology for Eleven Days of Live Music in Erlangen

From July 16 to 26, 2026, Kulturinsel Wöhrmühle in Erlangen once again became an open-air concert venue. VERANTEC returned as the full-service event technology provider for E-Werk Erlangen, taking responsibility for the stage setup and the associated technical infrastructure, among other services.

At the heart of it all: a Smartstage 180+ featuring a 14 × 11-metre stage area, standing 11 metres high, supported by an extensive technical setup.

From an Empty Field to an Open-Air Venue

The starting point at Wöhrmühle is pretty straightforward: an empty field. Before eleven days of live concerts could take place, a large stage and three trailer loads of technical equipment had to be installed on site.

Full-Service Provider. A Big Term, a Simple Idea.

As a full-service event technology provider, we don’t just deliver individual components and wish everyone good luck. We look at the technical production as a whole. For Kulturinsel, this included the installation of the Smartstage 180+, side extensions for monitoring and backline, and an FOH tower built using Layher scaffolding.

VERANTEC also supplied lighting and sound equipment to its partner E-Werk for various productions, featuring renowned brands such as d&b, Yamaha, ROXX, ROBE and SGM. Most of the installation and commissioning was handled directly by E-Werk Erlangen, with VERANTEC technicians providing additional support where needed.

For E-Werk, this means having one central technical partner and fewer interfaces to coordinate. For us, it means taking responsibility for delivering the agreed technical setup.

Smartstage 180+ as the Foundation

At the centre of the setup was the Smartstage 180+, offering a 14 × 11-metre stage area and standing 11 metres high. Side extensions provided dedicated space for monitoring and backline equipment. The loading dock allowed trucks from the various productions to unload directly at stage level. The FOH tower was constructed using Layher scaffolding.
One particular challenge was logistics: the uneven grass terrain and narrow access via a designated bicycle street created a bottleneck for deliveries. With the right coordination, however, everything ran smoothly.

That’s exactly what matters at a multi-day open-air event: creating a reliable technical foundation that can accommodate the requirements of different productions.

The Result

Eleven days of open-air concerts and a technical infrastructure that performed reliably throughout the entire festival. Even the logistical challenges of the narrow access road were handled smoothly. In the end, everything came together as planned, and everyone involved was satisfied with the result.
